The Business School's Emerging Markets Research Group (EMERGE) heard Dr Iva Kirovova from Ostrava University, Czech Republic, present her research on "Enhancing Student Motivation".

Iva Kirovova is a Senior Lecturer in Management and a docent at the Technical University of Ostrava where she lectures on Organisational Behaviour and Career Development and a Lecturer in Psychology at the Charles University in Prague. Iva has considerable experience as a psychologist which she is using in her research and publication on organisational studies and career development.

Iva says "Student Motivation is a traditional issue which has been researched by various disciplines. Psychological concepts can be applied in various contexts. Within the educational context students represent a key target group, together with their teachers. It is therefore important that we ask the following questions: What is your experience? How do we enhance students’ motivation? Are there any barriers? Is it always possible to overcome them? How helpful are contemporary psychological concepts in doing so?

Professor John Anchor, Director of the Emerging Markets Research Group, says "As Iva indicates, motivation is an extremely important factor in all aspects of our lives which is why there should be more attention paid to it and ways for increasing motivation explored – in universities, for example. As such it is a key issue in organisations and societies in both developed and emerging markets".
