University website review

Tue, 10 May 2016 02:00:00 BST

The marketing department is working with colleagues across the University to undertake a review of the website to check that content and navigation are the best they can be. In order to maximise the search function and structure information in the most useful way for our audiences we will be splitting the site into at least four new sub-domains:

  • Course finder
  • Recruitment pages (undergraduate, postgraduate, research, international, news items, accommodation, student services etc).
  • Student pages
  • Staff pages

The course finder and recruitment pages have been made the first priority. The review of these areas is underway and the new pages will be built for the recruitment cycle that starts in February 2017. Any quick wins we can introduce as we go along will be implemented ahead of that.

Regarding staff and student pages, we are working with Computing and Library Services to see how the information on these relates to other systems (e.g. Unilearn, Sharepoint, the intranet etc).

An external agency has been engaged to draw up the wire frames for the new course finder and the internal web team will then build the pages. This design will then inform the design of the rest of the website. The process is being informed by tracking the behaviour of current site users, comparisons with competitor sites, and feedback received via the current site. New designs will be tested with current and potential students and other audiences as appropriate. The marketing and web staff in your School or Service are being kept up to date with progress on the project (and some of them are members of particular working groups).

If you have any queries regarding the project please do not hesitate to contact me.
