Sports Journalism graduate shortlisted for award

Sports Journalism graduate Daniel Etchells is to spend his Easter holidays in Moscow after being shortlisted for an award for his coverage of a potential Olympic martial art. The award is for Sambofias Journalist of the Year.

Daniel, who has been a reporter for the Olympic, Commonwealth and Paralympic games website since 2014, has been recognised for his value and in-depth coverage of SAMBO (SAMozashchita Bez Oruzhiya) which means “self-defence without weapons.”

Daniel has had many fantastic opportunities whilst working for such as travelling the world and writing about different types of sport. This is Daniel’s first journalism award and he is very excited to be spending the holidays in Moscow.

Daniel graduated from the University of Huddersfield in 2010 with a BA(Hons) in Sports Journalism. Before joining, he covered football for a number of newspapers and found work experience in writing, such as for Manchester United’s official website, the Manchester Evening News and BBC Sport.
