Erasmus Mundus Flags

The EMERGE group held its second Social event with our student from two Erasmus Mundus projects – CANEM and UNetBA. Both projects have been developed by the University of Huddersfield and other partner institutions in Europe and partners from the "stan" countries (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan) and "Magreb" countries (Egypt, Algeria, Tunisia, Morocco and Libya).

About 30 students from the project and members of the Erasmus Mundus team joined together to enjoy a meal and to explore the very diverse and wonderful cultures in presentations prepared by the students. This year has seen the first group of students from Morocco, Tunisia and Kyrgyzstan so it was particularly exciting to explore these cultures. We were all thrilled mostly by the architecture and nature of those countries and – of course – the cuisine.

The director of EMERGE Prof John Anchor who is also the coordinator in chief of the Erasmus Mundus projects says "this is the third year in which we have received researchers and students from Central Asia and the second in relation to Middle East North Africa (MENA) region. I am delighted by the success of the academic arrangements as well as the social experience of our visitors. They have been actively involved in national student societies and have been responsible for setting them up in some cases".
