SHAPE Lindley is a social enterprise set up as Community Interest Company (CIC), who asked for support in launching their new, unique after-school-care homework club for 8-11 year olds based at Lindley Band rooms in Huddersfield. Marcus George, who is setting up the club, is a graduate of Business Management and Leadership BA(Hons) course and having completed the Year 2 Management Skills for Personal Development and Employability module wanted to offer something back to the course.
Marcus commented: "As a graduate from the Business School in 2014, I started my own 'Homework and After School Club' business and I knew that I needed some help. I approached Lecturer Ruth Brooks and she suggested working with current 2nd year business students to give them a real life brief. It was really cool meeting them as I could identify with where they were on their journey having been through it myself."
"I have found the students to be very capable and able in delivering our marketing brief. I really believe that working with real life organisations supports knowledge and experience lessons for the future. The students have gone above and beyond in their support of my business, Shapelindley CIC, and I 'm grateful for all their hard work. Partnering up with University has seen us generate some new ideas and cement some existing ones also. It 's been great to come back to the University and be a part of other people's journey and to give them valuable experience in coming up with solutions to real business situations."
