Over 50 Human Resource (HR) specialists gathered in the Business School on Tuesday 7th June, to celebrate the launch of the Partners in HR Network.

Staff from the People, Management and Organisations department, along with HR practitioners from charities, the emergency services, law firms, retailers, local council and recruitment firms, networked whilst enjoying a drinks and canapé reception.

The initiative links practitioners and staff together to discuss topical issues that are impacting HR in the local region. They also exchange ideas on developing the HR programmes offered at the University, and how to inspire the HR practitioners of tomorrow.

Peter Cheese, CEO of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), the world's oldest HR professional body, gave the keynote speech in the Business School. Dr Julie Davies, subject lead for HR and Professional Programmes, said "Peter Cheese gave a thought provoking talk on shifts in working lives. We're aiming to invite him back for a more inclusive Huddersfield town hall meeting before 2020 as part of our strong links with CIPD".

The keynote speech was followed by the inaugural meeting of the Partners Network and further networking. Julie commented, "The Partners in HR network represents a significant strategic initiative connecting the Business School with key organisational stakeholders locally and internationally. At our inaugural meeting we identified synergies to collaborate on proposals for apprenticeships and ensure regular interactions. There's a tremendous amount of good will within the group which complements our AACSB accreditation application".
