‌Second warmest in Huddersfield

lamb MAY was the second warmest experienced in Huddersfield during the past 10 years.  Rainfall was below average as were the wind speeds for the time of year.  All average figures are those recorded from the Applied Sciences weather station since 1990.

The monthly mean temperature was 12.65˚C compared to the average figure for May of 12.4˚C.  The warmest day of the month was Sunday 8th with an average temperature of 17˚C; the highest maximum temperature of 25.6˚C (the hottest for May since 2012) was also recorded on this day.  The coldest day of the month was Friday 13th with an average temperature of 8.4˚C.  The lowest minimum temperature of 3.9˚C was recorded on Tuesday 5th

It was the driest May since 2011 with a total of 45mm of rain recorded (average 55.24mm).  The wettest day of the month was Tuesday 10th with 16.2mm of rain (36% of the month’s total).  Fourteen days of the month had no rain with the driest spell falling between Thursday 12th and Monday 16th inclusive.

The mean wind speed for the month was 13km/hr.  The highest mean wind speed was 24.8km/hr recorded on Thursday 12th.  The maximum gust for the month was 85.68km/hr recorded on Monday 30th.

The prevailing wind direction was south west.
