GDRC flying high at the CIB World Building Congress

A team from GDRC together with Prof. Mike Kagioglou, Dean of the School of Art, Design and Architecture represented University of Huddersfield at the CIB World Building Congress, held in Tampere, Finland from 30th May to 3rd June 2016.

The International Council for Research and Innovation in Building and Construction (CIB) together with the Finnish Association of Civil Engineers (RIL) and the Tampere University of Technology (TUT) organised the 2016 Congress, theme of which is "Intelligent built environment for life”. It highlighted the importance of build environment and its development to the society. This triennial congress focused on the intelligent processes, products and services of construction industry: How can research help to improve the contribution of constructed assets to digitalizing world and service needs? And How will the research community meet emerging new needs of the users?
2016 congress was the biggest global research, development 
and innovation event of the year with 400+ papers accepted to be presented where 50 countries bringing in the world’s leading professionals and delegates.
At the Congress, our Dean, Mike was elected as a member of the CIB Board for the next three years. This key appointment will help us to contribute to the CIB Global research themes.

GDRC took part in various activities, chaired sessions, contributed to research roadmaps and there were two paper presentations and publications: “Building community resilience within involuntary displacements by enhancing collaboration between host and displaced communities: A literature synthesis” written by Pournima Sridarran, Kaushal Keraminiyage, and Dilanthi Amaratunga; and “Knowledge Gaps in the Construction Industry to Increase Societal Resilience: A Local and National Government Perspective”, written by Chamindi Malalgoda, Dilanthi, Amaratunga, Kaushal Keraminiyage, and Richard Haigh.
Icing on the cake was winning the Best Paper award for the “Knowledge Gaps in the Construction Industry to Increase Societal Resilience: A Local and National Government Perspective”, paper.
