James Shannon Talks about Dolby Atmos 3D Audio format

James Shannon, Senior Sound Consultant from Dolby Laboratories visited the University of Huddersfield on Wednesday 27th January to deliver a compelling lecture on Dolby Atmos which is Dolby's new cinema 3D audio format that can produce a fully immersive sound, and also gave a demo in our new 3D sound lab called the "applied psychoacoustics lab".
James Shannon is a Senior Sound Consultant for Dolby. He graduated from the University of Surrey Tonmeister course, where he later became an associate lecturer, and won the AMS Neve recording prize. While a university he spent a placement year at Cadac Electronics, testing and designing mixing consoles. After graduation James worked for CTS-Lansdowne Recording Studios, as technical manager, before leaving to become a freelance sound engineer for 4 years. He joined Dolby in 2008 where he works on film mix mastering, film premiere support and broadcasts. James has worked on over 150 films, such as Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter and many overseas titles" Dolby is currently applying for a patent for a product co-designed by James.
