Iranian Choir

The Iranian Choir (The Voice of Peace) will be performing at the University on Friday 4 March from 4.30pm until 6.00pm in the Creative Arts Building, room CAMG/01.

The Iranian choir consists of 10 adults and 8 children from Huddersfield. A London group of seven adults associated with the Paris based Coral BAHAR, the first and biggest Iranian Choir in Europe, will also accompany the group for the second part of this event.

The choir will sing a mixture of English and Iranian traditional songs. A translation summary of Iranian songs will be provided for the guests and audience. Hot drinks and Iranian sweets will also be served.

Nasrin Mousavi, Risk Disaster and Environmental Management MSc student is the organiser and inspiration behind the choir and is now doing her dissertation on the choir. Nasrin said: “My aim is to develop a sustainable and resilient children community by a choir group to engage women and children from a variety of nationalities as the language of music is a common language and it brings people together. This is a great opportunity to contribute to the society we live in, in the best possible way.”

Huddersfield MP Barry Sheerman and Mr. Simon Cale, Chief Executive for Yorkshire Children's Centre offer their support to the group and will be attending the event.

The Voice of Peace group came together in May 2014 with Iranian women who started gathering once a week. In May 2015 the children singing group joined and the group is now learning to read music notes and solfège. The choir’s two new projects are to join the Coral BAHAR in 2017 and the children to learn to play an instrument.
