Leire San Jose, Visiting Research Fellow and leader of the Ethics in Finance and Social Value Research Group at the University of the Basque Country, and her colleague José Luis Retolaza gave a thought-provoking example of doing research with real world impact at a FEGReG seminar on 30th November. The topic of their presentation was SPOLY (the social polyhedral value methodology for stakeholders). SPOLY is a new methodology based on stakeholders' interests which has been formulated by Leire and José Luis as a way of monetizing the social value of organizations. It is showcased in the book Social Accounting for Sustainability: Monetizing the Social Value, that they have co-authored with colleague Maite Ruiz Roqueñi. The three researchers were originally approached to do this work by a not-for profit organization but they have also successfully used it in for-profit settings. Leire originally came to Huddersfield to work with Director of FEGReG, Professor Chris Cowton, which has resulted in some of their publications being published in the Basque language as well as English and Spanish. Further collaborations are planned.
