Making Cities Resilient Campaign Steering Committee

Dr Kaushal Kermainiyage took part at the Making Cities Resilient Campaign Steering Committee, held from 24 – 25 November, 2016, at Sant Pau Art Nouveau Site, Sant Leopold Pavilion, Barcelona, Spain.
This steering committee meeting of the campaign is taking place following the adoption of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction: 2015-2030 and other international agreements (SDGs, Paris Agreement and New Urban Agenda) that are part of the 2030 development agenda.
Moving forward and considering the new global agreements coming into place, this meeting of the committee, focused on:
- Understanding of the Sendai Framework at the local level and its coherence with 2030 development agenda. Indicators and the implementation and monitoring at local level.
- Making Cities Resilient Campaign Workplan 2016-2020. Agreed strategic work-plan towards achievement of campaign targets. UNISDR secretariat will share achievement and challenges with the current model of engagement and propose alternative.
- Planned 2017 Global Platform for DRR meeting for local governments in Cancun, Mexico. Bringing together local representatives to further discuss and agree on the way forward to efficient and effective implementation and monitoring of the Sendai Framework at the local level.
