A nip in the air

mushrooms NOVEMBER experienced below average temperatures, average rainfall and relatively low wind speeds.  The average figures are those recorded from the Applied Sciences weather station since 1990.

The monthly mean temperature was 5.9˚C compared to the average figure for November of 7.65˚C.  The warmest day of the month was Monday 14th with an average temperature of 13.3˚C; the highest maximum temperature of 14.2˚C was also recorded on this day.  The coldest day of the month was Monday 28th with an average temperature of 1.9˚C; the lowest minimum temperature of -3.2˚C was also recorded on this day.  The temperature fell below zero on four days of the month.

A total of 85.4mm of rainfall was recorded during the month (average 79.8mm).  The wettest day of the month was Monday 21st with 21.6mm of rain (25.3% of the month’s total).  Ten days of the month escaped rainfall the driest spell falling between Wednesday 23rd and Friday 25th inclusive. 

The mean wind speed for the month was 21.6km/hr.  The highest mean wind speed was 57.6km/hr recorded on Monday 21st.  The highest gust of wind for the whole month was 115.2km/hr recorded on Monday 21st.

The prevailing wind direction for the month was south west.
