Annual JH Whitley Lecture 2016

Mon, 15 Aug 2016 09:40:00 BST

‌The Annual JH Whitley Lecture for 2016 takes place on 15 September, launching the ‘Sound Vision Place’ festival for its second year. This free event takes place at 5.45pm in the George Buckley Lecture Theatre at the University of Huddersfield.

The subject of the lecture is 'The Future of Trade Unions in Britain in the 21st Century’ presented by Sir Alistair Graham. The subject of the lecture was chosen to mark the centenary of JH Whitley’s recommendation for the establishment of the joint industrial councils. This reform, known in some industries as the ‘Whitley Council’, allowed employees and employers to meet together to discuss employment needs or issues. Sir Alistair Graham has years of experience in the public sector, after working for the Civil and Public Services Association (CPSA) as Assistant and subsequent General Secretary for 20 years, and later becoming the chairman of the Committee on Standards in Public Life from 2003 to 2007.

The second year of Sound Vision Place takes place after a successful launch year promoting the diverse range of activities within the Music, Humanities and Media School. This year, there are workshops, concerts and lectures to look forward.
