CADRE Project meeting and stakeholder seminar in Lithuania

6th Project steering committee meeting of the Collaborative Action towards Disaster Resilience Education (CADRE) project was successfully held from 14th – 15th in Vilunus, Lithuania. Meeting was hosted and organised by Prof. Artūras Kaklauskas who is a key partner of the CADRE project. Arturas is the Chair in Department of Construction Economics and Property Management (CEPM) and Vice-director of the Institute of Internet and Intelligent Technologies at the Vilnius Gediminas Technical University, Lithuania (VGTU).

Participants included: Prof. Dilanthi Amaratunga, Prof. Richard Haigh, Dr. Kaushal Keraminiyage and Dr Chamindi Malalgoda from GDRC; Prof Irene Lill and Dr. Emlyn Witt from Tallinn Institute of Technology, Estonia; and Dr Jerry Velasquez, Advocacy and Outreach UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR).

There were detailed discussions on: key knowledge gaps, Implementation of the Sendai Framework, key themes of the professional doctoral programme in disaster resilience, and panned project dissemination activities.

As part of the series of events, Prof Artūras Kaklauskas also led an industry seminar on

Market Demands in the Construction Industry to Increase Societal Resilience to Disasters. Over 20 invitees representing key sectors such as Vilnius County Fire and Rescue Service Board, The State Enterprise Centre of Registers, Vilnius City Municipality, attended the seminar. Some of the presentations included:  Increasing efficiency of the extraordinary (extreme) situations management by involving the community. Demand for professional education in Lithuania; Global risk and public resistance to disasters: and State Enterprise Centre of Registers. E-service for municipalities. Presentation of the Service of Regional Geoinformation Environment – REGIA.

CADRE (Collaborative Action towards Disaster Resilience Education) is an EU funded project that aims to address current and emerging labour market demands in the construction industry to increase societal resilience to disasters. The project will improve the quality and relevance of higher education through active cooperation between Higher Education Institutes and partners from outside academia, including construction professional bodies, local/national/international bodies and social partners.
