The NOVUS Scheme, created to develop the next generation of supply chain professionals, is in the running for its third major award

Supply chain degree scheme shortlisted for top industry award THE already award-winning NOVUS initiative, which is delivered in collaboration with some of the biggest names in the field of retail, manufacturing and logistics, is in the running for a third major industry title, after being shortlisted in this year’s European Supply Chain Excellence Awards for ‘Training and Professional Development’, sponsored by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC).

Through NOVUS – a partnership between the University of Huddersfield and the Charted Institute of Logistics and Transport - students are guaranteed a graduate job on completion of a specialist business degree and are given opportunities to work with leading professionals whilst studying.  Next year, NOVUS will be welcoming their first cohort of graduates from the scheme, with the very first students who enrolled now entering their final year.

After being shortlisted, a team representing NOVUS, took part in a challenging one hour presentation, to show the judges how the scheme is helping to inspire tomorrow’s supply chain professionals, by attracting and developing a new pipeline of talent for the industry.   Speaking about the benefits of the scheme, at PwC’s offices in London, were NOVUS Chair Andy Kaye, David Leach, University of Huddersfield NOVUS Programme Director and Sophie Austin, Head of Talent at NOVUS sponsor Wincanton.

NOVUS, which is backed by 30 leading companies, faces stiff competition when the award is announced in November, with the businesses Hotpoint Logistics, computer giant IBM, Richard Branson’s Virgin Trains with DHL, Renault Mais with OMSAN Logistics, Sky Deutschland with UMS Consulting and Swan Housing with Safetybank, also shortlisted for the same award.

Supply chain degree scheme shortlisted for top industry award “We believe we presented a really compelling case,” said Mr Leach who is Senior Lecturer within the Department of Logistics Operations and Hospitality Management.  “The NOVUS scheme is a truly ground-breaking initiative, bringing industry and the university together to enhance the education and development of our students.  But it is all now in the hands of the judges – so fingers crossed!”

In 2014, NOVUS were recipients of the Retail Week ‘Supply Chain Innovation Project of the Year’ award, along with the CILT Annual Award for Excellence for the ‘Development of People’.

The winners of this award will be announced at a glittering awards ceremony at the Park Lane Hilton in London on 16 November.
