Organ Donation

The University of Huddersfield and the Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust are giving students and staff the opportunity to sign up and become an organ donor.

“I do-nate” is the new message behind this year’s campaign where students and staff get the opportunity to consider signing up to the organ donor register. By signing up and donating organs you can save and enhance lives and also support families to enable their loved ones to achieve their wishes.

If you want to find out more about organ donations and how to get involved you can talk to the Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust team on campus, on Friday 6 November from 11.00am to 3.00pm in the Student Central (next to the SU shop).

Our Vice-Chancellor, Professor Bob Cryan and the President of the Students’ Union, Mike McGoughan also support this campaign and say “I do”.

Professor Bob Cryan said: “It is very important that more people sign up so more can become donors. There is an acute shortage so when I discussed it with the President of our Students’ Union we decided that together we could make our students aware of how they can make a difference.”

Jayne Greenhalgh, specialist nurse in organ donation at the Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust said “This is a brilliant initiative and a fantastic opportunity for us to work together to promote awareness.”
