If you need a bag to carry your books you can purchase the brand new library bag priced at £1.50. You can purchase this from the Library Services Help Centre, Central Services Building, level 4.

The bags were designed last year as part of the "Library in my bag" competition run by the Library Services and the Students’ Union. The brief included designing an original and eye-catching design.

The winning design was created by Architecture student Aleksandra Traykova from Bulgaria while she was on her placement year. Aleksandra is now studying a Masters course in Architecture and she hopes to work in the UK after her studies and also take time to travel.

Aleksandra says the inspiration from her design came from the idea that "you get smarter and smarter when you read books. Books are made of trees, so the design is a brain tree!"

Aleksandra had several ideas about the competition but the Braintree idea was the one that stood out the most for her.

The Idea of the Braintree came from an inspirational poster she had previously seen so she created her own words for the bag related to using the library.
