It’s National Care Leavers’ Week from Wednesday 21 October to Wednesday 28 October. 

This national week highlights the needs of care leavers and encourages agencies responsible for looking after them to work in a coordinated and effective way. Here at the University there are a range of activities taking place for you to take part in.

Wednesday 21 October, 5.30pm to 7.30pm:

Jenny Molloy, author of Hackney Child will be launching her new book called Neglected. The book launch and reading will take place at the University in room R1/16 in the Ramsden Building from 5.30pm to 7.30pm. Students and staff are invited to join this FREE event by booking a place on Eventbrite

This event is organised as part of a series of events during National Care Leavers’ Week in conjunction with Kirklees Council and Calderdale Council.

Thursday 22 October, 2.30pm to 4.30pm:

‘Where’s your Mama gone’ is a theatre performance directed by Brian Daniels at Dean Clough Theatre in Halifax.  Staff are invited to this FREE performance (which is not suitable for children and young people) by booking a place on Eventbrite

Saturday 24 October, 9.30am to 3.00pm:

Open Day At the University of Huddersfield Open Day there will be a dedicated space in meeting room A in the Students’ Union throughout the day where care leavers and looked after children can drop in and access information from members of staff from Wellbeing Services and the Schools and Colleges Liaison team.

Tuesday 27 October, 5.30pm to 7.30pm:

Everyone is invited to a Harry Potter movie night, featuring ‘The Philosopher’s Stone’, with popcorn and Yummy Yorkshire ice cream at the Students’ Union (located upstairs in Student Central).  There is no need to pre-book for this FREE event which is open to all students, staff, younger children, care leavers, foster families and practitioners.
