Third coolest

SEPTEMBER was the third coolest since our records began.  Rainfall was below average and wind speeds for the month were amongst the lowest recorded for September since our records began.  The average figures are those recorded by the Applied Sciences weather station since 1990.

leaves The monthly mean temperature for the month was 12.59°C, over 1.6°C degrees lower than the average temperature for September of 14.19°C.  Two days share the warmest day of the month, Wednesday 10th and Thursday 11th respectively with an average temperature of 15.6°C.  The highest maximum temperature of 21.8°C was recorded on Thursday 10th.  The coldest day of the month was Sunday 27th with an average temperature of 10.3°C.  The lowest minimum temperature of 4.1°C was recorded on Saturday 26th.

A total of 47.4mm of rainfall was recorded during the month compared to the average figure for September of 58.21mm.  The wettest day of the month was Monday 14th with 17.2mm of rainfall (36.3% of the month’s total rainfall).  Fourteen days of the month escaped rainfall, the driest spell falling between Tuesday 8th and Thursday 10th inclusive.

The mean wind speed for the month was an extremely low 7.27km/hr compared to the average figure of 10.4km/hr recorded for September since our new weather station was recorded in 2005.  The highest mean wind speed was 19.08km/hr recorded on Thursday 24th.  The highest gust of wind for the whole month was 81.36km/hr recorded on Saturday 5th

The prevailing wind direction was south west.
