Average for the time of year

Flower Temperatures and rainfall figures were around average for the time of year.  The average figures are those recorded since 1990 from the School of Applied Sciences weather station.

The monthly temperature was 16.6°C just slightly lower than the average temperature for August of 16.78°C.  The warmest day of the month was Thursday 20th with an average temperature of 20.1°C.  The highest maximum temperature of 26.1°C was recorded on Saturday 22nd.  The coldest day of the month was Saturday 15th with an average temperature of 13°C; the lowest minimum temperature of 7.8°C was also recorded on this day.

A total of 66.8mm of rainfall was recorded during the month compared to the average figure for August of 68.5mm.  The wettest day of the month was Friday 14th with 14.4mm of rain (21.5% of the month’s total).  Fifteen days of the month escaped rainfall, the driest spell fell between Wednesday 26th and Friday 28th.

The mean wind speed for the month was 8.42km/hr.  The highest mean wind speed was 17.28km/hr recorded on Monday 8th.  The maximum gust of 83.88km/hr was recorded on Tuesday 4th.

The prevailing wind direction for the month was south west.
