Pop-up Art School

On Sunday 29 November and in conjunction with HCMF (Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival) the University's Art and Design, and Music PGCE students facilitated a fabulous community education art event - Pop-up Art School (opens as PDF)

The theme was Huddersfield’s ‘Sound System Culture’: the culture that was thriving in Huddersfield in the 1970s and 1980s, initially developing from the Caribbean community in the area but eventually expanding until it became world-renowned in the global reggae and dub scene.

The Sound System Culture project created a unique interactive sound system, which was housed at the Festival and formed the focus of this year's Pop-Up Art School, where it explored the many different facets of the culture through engaging with music via art, media and craft.

The Pop-Up also provided a hands-on opportunity to interact directly with the sound system and make some noise!
