‌Record crowds attended the International Food and Culture Festival on Wednesday 4 November with over 2000 staff and students experiencing a taste of the world.

The International Food and Culture Festival takes place twice a year and has become one of the most significant events that unites the University’s student population. Its aim is to strengthen inclusion, coherence and understanding of different cultures, cuisines and celebrations.

Among the many nationalities celebrating were students from Kuwait, Poland, Vietnam, Malaysia, Nigeria, Japan, France, Russia, China, England and India. The event allows students from the UK and around the world to showcase their national foods, fashions and traditions which helps to bring people together and gain a wider understanding of each other. Through this format long lasting friendships and experiences are made and shared.

Earlier this year the University was voted within the top ten institutions in the world for student experience and best place to live and study in a global student survey.

International Food and Culture Festival Lammy Jones, a British student currently studying Politics at the University, commented: “International life at Huddersfield has really opened my eyes to the world. I have made so many friends form many different countries, immersing myself in their stories and even visiting their homes.”

Alan Tobi, the University's International Student Experience Manager said, “It has been a great chance for all of our students at Huddersfield of every nationality to learn and understand each other through their passion for food, music, fashion and culture.

“We have brought them all together and it has been great to see how they have felt included through showcasing cultural exchange activity. Whether it was sampling food from Hong Kong, trying Salsa dancing or watching a Moroccan performance, the whole campus came together for a spectacular day of activities. The University of Huddersfield has a global appeal and we want to enhance that further by continually improving the student experience on campus.”

The next International Food and Culture Festival takes place on Wednesday 2 March 2016 from 12.00pm to 3.00pm in Quayside, Level 2, Central Services Building.
