A very mild month

OCTOBER was a very mild month with average rainfall and very low wind speeds for the time of year.  All averages are those recorded from the Applied Sciences weather station since 1990.

leaves The monthly mean temperature was 11.01°C almost a degree cooler than the average figure for October of 11.1°C.  The warmest day of the month was Monday 5th October with an average temperature of 16°C.  The highest maximum temperature of 21.1°C was recorded on Tuesday 6th.  The coldest day of the month was Sunday 25th with an average temperature of 8.2°C.  The lowest minimum temperature of 3.4°C was recorded on Thursday 1st.

‌A total of 75.2mm of rainfall was recorded, very close to the average for October of 77.64mm.  The wettest day of the month was Wednesday 28th with 13.6mm of rainfall (18.08% of the month’s total).  Just 10 days escaped rainfall with no significant dry spells.

Wind speeds were significantly low for the time of year making October 2015 the calmest month since April 2011; the mean wind speed for the month was just 7.09km/hr.  The highest mean wind speed was 20.16km/hr recorded on Wednesday 21st.  The highest gust of wind for the whole month was 77.4km/hr.

The prevailing wind direction for the month was south west.
