Huddersfield logistics graduate Marcin Dziedzic has won the 2015 European Prize in Aviation Economics and Management in the category for Master or Bachelor papers. The Prize is jointly sponsored by Ashgate Publishing and the German Aviation Research Society was presented at the European Aviation Conference, in Cranfield this November 2015.
His winning paper, ‘The role of secondary airports in light of low-fare airlines hybridisation’ was part of his bachelor dissertation, supervised by Dr David Warnock-Smith, investigating the changing relationship between low-fare airlines (LFAs) and airports. It analyses how the three major European low-fare airlines, i.e. Ryanair, easyJet and Norwegian behave in the four largest markets (UK, Italy, Spain and Germany). Marcin’s final year dissertation was also chosen as the best final year project by the Department of Logistics, Operations and Hospitality Management at Huddersfield.
Marcin praised the support he received from lecturers David Warnock-Smith and Eric Njoya and commented; “The award is voted by German Aviation Research Society, gathering the major academics, researchers and professionals from the field of aviation, and honestly I have never expected that my paper would be even read by some of those people. I think this is an award for the University as well and it shows that the teaching staff do a great job.”
