Rob Vincent CBE receives the award of Honorary Doctorate of the University of Huddersfield for his services to local government
THE Huddersfield-man who led Kirklees Council to become Council of the Year in 2008, has been honoured by his hometown University.
Rob Vincent CBE, a former Chief Executive of Kirklees Council, received the award of Honorary Doctorate of the University of Huddersfield for his services to local government.
Mr Vincent began working as a planner in Dorset and Manchester before joining the Education Service in Kirklees. He was its Chief Education Officer in the nineties.
He went on to be the Council’s Chief Executive and led the organisation through a period of community tensions before beginning the major change programmes made necessary by the public sector spending reductions. Under his leadership, Kirklees was made Council of the Year in 2008.
Mr Vincent was appointed by the Government to be the Chief Executive at Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council following a highly-critical Corporate Governance Inspection. He was awarded a CBE for services to local government in 2010.
He was a member of the main Department of Communities and Local Government board for two years, and co-led a capability review update of that department. He has also served on a number of national bodies, mostly focussed on community cohesion and public sector improvement strategies.
Since leaving full-time roles, Mr Vincent has worked as Local Government Adviser to the Department of Health and to Public Health England as they manage the transition of the public health function from the NHS to local government. He also acted as the Implementation Director for the West Yorkshire Combined Authority and he is Chair of the Improvement Board for Rotherham Council, Deputy Chair of the Bradford Community Health Foundation Trust and Chair of the Kirklees Theatre Trust.
