University of Huddersfield Product Design student Jordan Martin has reached the final 35 for the Electrolux Design Lab competition with his product called Bloom.  The theme for this year’s competition is ‘Healthy Happy Kids,’ which challenged entrants to come up with a concept that could influence the children of future generations to grow up healthier and happier.

Jordan’s unique kettle design has helped him to reach the final 100 out of 1,500 entries and with the help of our votes he could be in with a chance of winning the overall competition.  People from over 34 countries have entered this prestigious competition and only five people from the UK have made it through to the final 100.

His product is called Bloom, which is a unique kettle design that utilises the wasted steam produced from boiling water for alternate tasks, within three unique pods. The pods are tailored to harness this steam and create an environment that will enable the pod to carry out its task. The pods’ capabilities are steam cooking, cleaning and sterilizing, propagating and air purifying. The product has been designed in such a way that it creates a safe atmosphere for children to carry out tasks that would otherwise be dangerous or stressful. Bloom offers a vast amount of benefits for the future household, including saving space, being environmentally friendly and safe.

Bloom’s main purpose is to educate children on relatable subjects including what they are currently learning at school using smart device compatibility.  The smart device capabilities enable children to post their work and achievements online, creating an incentive to learn more and to compete with friends.
