Personal Learning Support Plans (PLSPs)

Thu, 28 May 2015 01:50:00 BST

Students who disclose a disability, long-term medical condition, specific learning difficulty or serious mental health issue to the University are likely to have a Personal Learning Support Plan or PLSP. This document outlines the support or adjustments the student requires to facilitate access to their studies in areas where their disability has a negative impact. It plays a vital part in the support we provide to students.

The contents of the PLSP may be updated during a student’s time at University to ensure we continue to meet their requirements. This may happen if, for example, the impact of a student’s disability changes.

Students and staff can pass on feedback about the PLSP to Disability Services.

Notification about a PLSP

Once a PLSP has been produced, an email is sent to the student, their module leaders, their Personal Tutor, the Library Disability Officer and the Disability Coordinator in the academic school. The email contains details of the location of the PLSP and will also let recipients know if the PLSP has been updated from the original or produced because a student has transferred course.

Finding a PLSP

PLSPs are produced electronically and held on a student’s record. From 1 June 2015, all PLSPs can be accessed through a link on the Home page of My Students called PLSP Searcher. Any methods that were previously used to access a PLSP (e.g. Quick Student Look-Up) will no longer be available.

Staff can search for individual PLSPs using the student's name or number via the PLSP Searcher link. Groups of students with a PLSP can also be identified. The group search parameters enable staff to search for students with a PLSP by route, course or school.

It is recommended that all academic staff visit the PLSP Searcher on a regular basis to keep up to date with which students have a PLSP as they are produced throughout the academic year. It is especially beneficial to check at the start of a new academic year or a new module, when an in class test is taking place or when there is a change to the usual academic routine such as a field trip.
