Dear Colleagues

Following the promotion of Professor Tim Thornton to the post of Deputy Vice-Chancellor from 1 September 2015 I am delighted to announce that Professor Christine Jarvis will take over the role of Pro Vice-Chancellor (Teaching and Learning) on the same date.

Christine completed a BA and MA in English at the University of Warwick and then completed a PhD on a part-time basis with the University of Leeds.  Christine first joined the University of Huddersfield in 1992 as a Senior Lecturer in Education, became Principal Lecturer in 1995, Head of Department of Community and International Education in 2000 and Dean of the School of Education and Professional Development in 2006.

Christine has published widely in the field of adult education.  She is a Professor of Teaching and Learning , a recipient of a National Teaching Fellowship award , a member of the Editorial Board  of Studies in the Education of Adults and a member of the Expert Panel for the Education and Training Foundation advising on Professional Standards and Workforce Development.

Regionally, Christine is a Commissioner on the Oldham Education and Skills Commission, serves on the Board of Kirklees College and Chairs the Dewsbury Learning Trust.  During her time at Huddersfield Christine has written bids that have secured over £1m for the enhancement of teaching and learning and for supporting lifelong learning.

Christine brings a wealth of experience to the role and I am sure that you will join me in congratulating Christine on her appointment as Pro Vice-Chancellor (Teaching and Learning).
