Changes to University senior management team

Wed, 06 May 2015 09:05:00 BST

Dear Colleagues,

I am writing to let you know about two important changes to our University senior management team.

First, Professor Peter Slee our Deputy Vice-Chancellor has been appointed the next Vice-Chancellor at Leeds Beckett University. Peter will take up his new role on 1 September 2015.

Second, Professor Tim Thornton, currently Pro Vice-Chancellor (Teaching and Learning) will take over from Peter as Deputy Vice-Chancellor from 1 September 2015. We will now begin the process of searching for a successor to Tim as PVC Teaching and Learning.

I am sure you will join me in congratulating both colleagues on their new appointments.

Peter has served as my Deputy since January 2010 and has played an important role in helping us steer the University safely through the external turbulent policy changes of the last five years. We will have the opportunity to thank Peter formally for his contribution to the University’s success later in the summer term.

Tim has of course been a member of staff here at Huddersfield since 1994. He began his career as a lecturer in History, rapidly rose through the ranks to become Professor, became Dean of the School of Music, Humanities and Media in 2006, and was appointed Pro Vice-Chancellor (Teaching and Learning) in 2008. Since then Tim has led major improvements in retention, student achievement and student satisfaction and was instrumental in setting and leading the strategic objective of all academic staff becoming Fellows of the Higher Education Academy.

Professor Bob Cryan

Vice-Chancellor
