Championing women in STEMM research
Tue, 05 May 2015 02:00:00 BST
The University has recently submitted an application for the bronze award from Athena SWAN.
The Athena SWAN Charter has been developed to encourage and recognise commitment to combating under-representation and advancing the careers of women in STEMM (science, technology, engineering, medicine and mathematics) research and academia.
The Charter covers:
• Women in academic roles
• Progression of students into academia
• Working environment for all staff
The action plan supporting the bronze application outlines how we will address any barriers to mainstreaming the principles of the Athena SWAN Charter. This action plan also supports the University-wide Equality and Diversity objectives. Implementation of the action plan is carried out through briefings and discussions with the teams/directorates with assigned responsibility for implementing particular actions to ensure progress occurs to the agreed timescales.
