The placement office in the Business School received a surprise visit on Wednesday 25 March when HRH The Duke of York popped in for a chat.

During the Royal visit on campus for The Duke of York Young Entrepreneur Awards 2015 the placement unit was surprised to be added to the day’s proceedings.  Student Placement Officer Andrew Stainton and his colleagues Placement Assistant Emma Clarkson and Project Assistant Laura Forester-Green were busy at work when they noticed a gathering of security staff outside.

“I joked that maybe The Duke of York would be coming into the placement unit,” commented Andrew.  “And then he did!”

His Royal Highness The Duke of York decided to pay an impromptu visit as he walked into the placement unit and started to talk to Andrew.  “He asked about what we do and how things are going with finding placements for our students.  I talked to him about how we help students and explained that there are lots of opportunities out there, but it is very competitive.

“He also commented on our recent award for being Finalists in the National Undergraduate Employability Awards and we talked about that for a while.  He seemed very normal and down-to-earth, especially when I commented that if I’d known he was coming I would have worn a tie!”
