Political Debate

Political Debate With the 2015 General Election fast approaching, there is not a day that passes without the nation’s politicians canvassing for the vote of the UK public. The time is coming for voters to make their decisions.

The young are often cited in the media as being a generation who are ‘disengaged’ with the political system. Here at the University of Huddersfield we believe that politics is not a spectator sport, and we encourage young people to get involved in politics and have a voice.

On Friday 27 March the University’s Division of Criminology, Politics and Sociology will be hosting a political debate in St. Paul’s Hall, focusing on local politics and young people, giving you the chance to hear from and question your representatives.

Hosted by Dr Pete Woodcock (Head of our Division of Criminology, Politics and Sociology), the debating panel will include local Members of Parliament and Councillors.  Confirmed panel members include Jason McCartney MP (Conservative, Colne Valley), Barry Sheerman MP (Labour, Huddersfield), Cllr Andrew Cooper (Green Party, Kirklees Council), Rob Butler (Parliamentary candidate standing for election, UKIP) and Richard Carter (Party Leader - Yorkshire First).*

Attendees will be invited to submit questions that may be posed to the panel.
