Temperatures and rainfall below average

snow Temperatures and rainfall were both below average for the time of year.  The average figures are those recorded since 1990 from the School of Applied Sciences weather station.

The monthly mean temperature was 4.9˚C compared to the average figure for February of 5.45˚C.  The warmest day of the month was Wednesday 25th with an average temperature of 10.1˚C; the highest maximum temperature of 11.7˚C was also recorded on this day.  The coldest day of the month was Monday 2nd with an average temperature of 0.92˚C.  The lowest minimum temperature of -2.4˚C was recorded on Thursday 5th.  The temperature fell below zero on six days of the month.

It was the fifth driest February since our records began with a rainfall total of 31.4mm (average 72.1mm).  The wettest day of the month was Sunday 22nd with 8.2mm of rainfall (26% of the month’s total rainfall).  Twelve days of the month had no rainfall.

The mean wind speed was 11.56km/hr.  The highest mean wind speed was 28.8km/hr recorded on Saturday 28th.  The highest gust of wind for the month was 123.48km/hr again recorded on Saturday 28th.

The prevailing wind direction for the month was southwest.
