Yasmin Brandano’s Neofita will create a platform for emerging designers to display their wares

Yasmin Brandano - Neofita A NEW opportunity for students from the University’s School of Art, Design and Architecture to showcase their work to potential buyers is to be unveiled later this year.

Yasmin Brandano, a Huddersfield fashion design with marketing and production graduate from Italy, has developed a showcase platform called Neofita – meaning new – for students and recent graduates to display and monitor the sales of their merchandise without any damaging financial overlays.

After graduating from her degree, Yasmin spotted a niche in the market for Neofita because of her own difficulties of finding contacts within the fashion industry.

“Whilst being a student I felt safe in the environment of the University,” said the 28-year-old.  “Then I graduated and felt lost in the big wide world.  I had the talent to succeed, but no-one to show it to and I want this to be different for future students,” she continued.

Working on commission, Neofita aims to provide an opening into the world of fashion and design, whilst giving emerging designers an opportunity to develop their passion into a creative career.

Neofita will display areas of work from fashion, art and design, ceramics, textiles and photography.

Yasmin Brandano - Neofita ‌Graduate business advice

Since graduating in 2011, Yasmin has made full use of the University’s facilities, enabling her to take her new enterprise to the next level by setting up the business from The Duke of York Young Entrepreneur Centre (DOY YEC), within the University of Huddersfield’s 3M Buckley Innovation Centre.

The DOY YEC has provided Yasmin with free hot-desking, free use of the electronic facilities to grow the on-line business, and in addition, essential business advice from the University’s Enterprise Team

The team assists enterprising students and recent graduates, like Yasmin, to develop their business ideas through one-to-one meetings with their business advisors, a series of business skills events and where appropriate, access to proof of concept funding.

Yasmin has bold dreams for Neofita and has opened the doors not just for Huddersfield students but for students worldwide.

“Emerging designers are the future and our customers know that,” said Yasmin.  “Personal experience has taught me how hard the creative industries can be to break into.  I believe this platform will be the answer,” she added.
