Key HR thought-leaders gathered online this June to discuss the challenges around technology implementation and change management in the industry. The webinar – ‘HR Technology: Managing Change and Its Disruptive Nature’ was hosted by People Management (the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development official magazine) and sponsored by E-HR technology provider Cascade. Lecturer in HRM for CIPD post-graduate courses at the University of Huddersfield Liz Rivers was one of 3 specially invited speakers tackling issues of how technology can support change in the modern workplace and how HR teams can take advantage of this to manage any potential disruption in change management processes. Liz was ideally placed to contribute insight to the topic through her experience gained during 17 years in the retail industry, with experience of supporting the design and delivery of change management initiatives across 800 stores as HR Project Manager at Tesco.

The other two invited speakers were technology specialist Marc Greggains from Cascade and Emma Tomkinson of Together Housing Group who has just implemented their E-HR system. Listeners to the webinar were able to post questions during the live broadcast with interactive audience polls carried out on some of the key areas of interest under discussion. The webinar was brokered by Huddersfield Business Management graduate, Katie Mallinson, 2015 winner of a Duke of York Young Entrepreneurs Award and a strong supporter of the Department of People, Management and Organisations  Advisory Committee.

Liz commented; “I thoroughly enjoyed delivering this webinar and sharing my experience on this topic. As lecturers we’re used to gauging audience reaction when speaking, this was totally different! The only way we knew how well it went was from audience participation through good responses to the live polls and an interesting range of questions posed in the Q&A. People Management shared with us that there was a higher level of interest in this webinar than they’ve had before, clearly a topic of interest to HR practitioners who gave positive feedback on both the rich content and practical focus”
