On Tuesday 7 July teams of staff from across the University were tasked with a seven-hour design challenge as part of the Honeypot project.

Honeypot enables hundreds of students at the University to assemble teams and to pitch their unique ideas and it was decided to extend the idea to staff. With backing from the President of New Ventures Stefan Gabriel, a Visiting Professor of Innovation at the University, Honeypot aims to discover the very best in innovation.

Project lead, and Director of Teaching and Learning in the School of Art, Design and Architecture, Dr Jess Power commented: “The Honeypot project is designed to promote interdisciplinary working across the University.  For a number of years we have brought together students to showcase the very best of innovative design and industry thinking through 24-hour challenges. However, recently staff wanted a slice of the action, so we devised a staff seven-hour challenge involving five different schools.  It has been a tremendous success and will lead to other innovative research opportunities”.

The staff design challenge focused on ways to improve mortality of childbirth through exploring mechanisms to detect Perinatal Asphyxia. The winning idea will be supported by the University’s Research and Enterprise department with £10,000 backing for further development.
