Professor Suzanne Wilkinson from New Zealand visiting GDRC

Professor Suzanne Wilkinson from Centre for Disaster Resilience, Recovery and Reconstruction, University of Auckland, New Zealand recently visited GDRC at University of Huddersfield. She contributed to the GDRC public lecture that was held on the 22nd June entitled: “Is 2015 a pivotal year for tackling disaster risk and building more resilient communities?”. Her contribution was specifically on “Victorian ‘Black Saturday’ bushfires longitudinal study” which is an ongoing initiative, which commenced in 2009, which she leads.  Based on the research that has been carried out after the 2011 Christchurch earthquake, she also presented the “Build Back Better” framework.

Professor Suzanne Wilkinson is the founder and leader of the Centre for Disaster Resilience, Recovery and Reconstruction and a research leader with Resilient Organisations and researches on the management of the construction industry in disaster environments. She has extensive research experience in disaster management, disaster recovery, and disaster reconstruction and is currently working on Government (BRANZ, EQC, MBIE) funded projects on the recovery of Christchurch.

GDRC Public Lecture

She will be one of the co-organisers of the GDRC International conferences on Building resilience conferences series - 6th conference to be held in Auckland, New Zealand in 2016.
