Wilma Teviotdale Throughout her career, Wilma Teviotdale has dedicated herself to shaping accountancy education, so those who are practising the profession are equipped to face the challenges of the ever-changing economic landscape. She has recently been presented with the opportunity to carry her work forward by sitting on the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) Learning and Professional Development (LPD) Board.

Considered the world leading body for accountancy and finance professionals, the ICAEW supports over 144,000 chartered accountants worldwide while also safeguarding the quality and integrity of the profession.

As part of her new role, Wilma will be involved in overseeing the development of strategy and policy in LPD, including student training, employer matters, membership and fellowship requirements, practising certificate and audit qualification requirements.

Wilma originally joined the University of Huddersfield following a long private sector career as a chartered accountant with a big international firm based in Leeds. Over the years, she has had a number of high-profile roles for the accountancy profession. Wilma has completed a term of office as the President of the West Yorkshire Society of Chartered Accountants, one of ICAEW’s largest district societies, as well as now being one of 84 members on the ICAEW’s worldwide council, to name but a few of her achievements.

In addition to being the Head of Accountancy and Finance at Huddersfield, Wilma also leads the University’s Partners in Accountancy programme, designed to give Huddersfield students an exceptional start to their careers through working directly with both local practices such as Kirk Newsholme or Simpson Wood, but also multinational companies like KPMG, Baker Tilly and Grant Thornton.

“I think my appointment to this role fits well with the endeavours of our Department,” Wilma said. “At the University of Huddersfield, our aim to make sure that we have really employable graduates, so we must keep our finger on the pulse of what is happening. Through my new appointment I will not only be able to work on improving the development of individuals who are training or already practising accountants, but I will also have the opportunity to disseminate that knowledge to our current students, complementing some of our existing initiatives such as the Partners in Accountancy programme.”
