Joanna Radley Female IT leaders will be recognised at the Women in IT Awards with an awards ceremony at London’s Grosvenor House on Thursday 29 January.  These awards celebrate the achievements of female executives in the often male dominated technology industry.

The University’s Data Centre Manager, Joanna Radley, has successfully reached the finalist stage for the Public Sector Deployment of the Year category.  In the same category as the University of Huddersfield are the Home Office, London Borough of Camden, Stockport NHS Foundation Trust and Exeter College.

Joanna commented: “It’s fantastic to have been nominated for this award when much of what we do in IT is very much in the background. The nomination is the result of our latest wireless project where we have put the needs of our students foremost in our choice of technology.  Using the University’s mission statement as our guide we have opted for an innovative approach. The project will be completed by Easter and we feel confident that our students will have an outstanding wireless environment to support their studies.  Winning the award for Best Public Sector Deployment of the Year would be the icing on the cake, but even if we don’t, being shortlisted against such strong competition is a great achievement”.

Nicky Morgan, the Secretary of State for Education and Minister for Women and Equalities, who is supporting the Your Life campaign to encourage more young people, and especially girls, to pursue careers in booming areas like technology, lent her congratulations to the finalists.

“Well done to all of the women who have been nominated for the Women in IT Awards,” she said. “You are all fantastic role models and ambassadors for young people looking to study STEM subjects.  I am sure you will inspire other women to follow in your foot steps and pursue a career in technology”.
