On Friday 16 January, second year Midwifery, Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy and Podiatry BSc(Hons) students attended an Inter-professional Working Conference hosted by the University.

The conference is part of the Inter-professional Working in Context module, which the students are currently studying, enabling them to learn about the benefits, enablers and inhibitors of working with people in other professions. This provides students with the opportunity to gain an insight into how different professions work inter-professionally, whilst maintaining the integrity of their own profession. The overall aim of this conference and module is to help students develop the ability to work as part of a wider team for the benefit of their patients/service users, when they qualify.

The conference was opened by Dr Christine Rhodes, Head of Undergraduate Nursing at the University. Christine who is an expert in the area of inter-professional working and service users and carer involvement, delivered a keynote speech. The event also featured a talk delivered by Anthony Dawson, a Practice Learning Facilitator, on practice service development, as well as interactive activities involving videos of patient experiences, providing positive examples of how inter-professional working is effective and creative workshops, where the students worked in inter-professional groups to develop newspaper headlines and posters.
