Jan Paley receives IOSH award

Jan Paley Congratulations to Jan Paley, the University’s Head of Health and Safety, who has recently received an award by The Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH), the biggest health and safety membership organisation in the world.

Jan Paley told us, “I was pleasantly surprised to receive the award. Tim Briggs, President of The Institution of Occupational Safety and Health and also Senior Lecturer at Leeds Beckett University made a special trip to come to one of our usual meetings held in December and presented the award to me so I was totally surprised.”

Jan has been a member of the IOSH for 25 years and as a volunteer she has held the position of secretary for the Manchester branch for 12 years. She has been an active committee and branch member since returning to live in Yorkshire in 1998 and before that with the Edinburgh Branch in Scotland. Some of her responsibilities as a secretary include creating agendas and managing the meetings and also sourcing speakers. Jan also works with committee colleagues to support and advise its members’ professional development and career pathways.

Jan said, “Being a recipient of a President’s Distinguished Service Award recognises my commitment and long service to IOSH, the Manchester and North West Districts Branch and the safety profession as a whole.”

The IOSH is the only Chartered body for health and safety professionals which regulates qualifications and competence ensuring all practitioners operate to a professional Code of Conduct. It has over 40,000 members.
