The first group of students commenced on the new Pre-registration Nursing MSc course at the University of Huddersfield in January 2015. This new two year full-time course provides the opportunity for students to be awarded a Master’s degree and eligibility to register as a nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Council.  The innovative course is the first of its kind in the North of England.

The course was developed by a team, led by Dr Caroline Barker, Course Leader.  Caroline extended a warm welcome to the 19 new students and wished them every success for the future.  Dr Christine Rhodes, Head of Pre-Registration Nursing at the University explained that the Master’s route through our already successful pre-registration BSc (Hons) course offers the opportunity for graduates with relevant experience to go on to further study and achieve a higher level degree alongside a professional qualification.  The Pre-registration MSc Nursing course allows eligible applicants to study towards Adult, Child, Learning Disabilities or Mental Health Nursing.  The current national shortage of qualified nurses in the UK has placed unprecedented demand and these high achieving students will be available to the workforce in a reduced timescale due to the recognition of transferrable academic and practice skills.
