‌AN EVENING celebrating success and Christmas festivities took place when current students and last year’s graduates of the Huddersfield International Study Centre (ISC) were honoured at the Centre’s annual awards ceremony, which took place in the Huddersfield Student’s Union.

Students from around the world had their achievements recognised and rewarded with letters of commendation and merit, as well as a variety of other prizes, for successfully completing the various study programmes taught by the Centre.

International Study Centre The ISC, based in the heart of the campus, provides degree preparation courses for international students who do not meet the requirements for direct entry to the University.  Combining academic modules, study skills and English language training, the programmes qualify students to meet the challenges of undergraduate and postgraduate degree-level study at the University.

“The Centre gives them the academic skills they need to go on to successful undergraduate, or postgraduate study at the University of Huddersfield,” said Stephen Zimmer, Deputy Head of the Centre.  “We also take the students on trips to national places of interest and help them on a personal level to integrate into the local community,” he said.

The University currently welcomes over 3,000 international students from approximately 120 countries and such a large number brings an international dimension to the University as well as to the town.  Earlier this year, the University was voted within the top ten institutions in the world for student experience and best place to live and study in a global student survey.

International Study Centre One of the ways to strengthen inclusion, coherence and the understanding of different cultures is the University’s twice-yearly International Food and Culture Festival, which saw record crowds attend last month, with over 2,000 staff and students experiencing a “taste of the world”.

Huddersfield’s International Study Centre was opened seven years ago by His Royal Highness The Duke of York, KG, who is now Chancellor of the University.  Since then, the Centre has seen over 1,000 students progress on to degree courses at Huddersfield.
