Staff and students reap the benefits of volunteering
Mon, 21 Dec 2015 02:00:00 GMT
Staff and students from the University volunteer for a range of projects which benefit the community and also themselves. One example of this is the Students’ Union society HarvestHud, based on an allotment at Storthes Hall. The aim of the project is to build, maintain and develop the allotment so that fresh produce can be donated to Huddersfield’s local food bank, the Welcome Centre.
The benefits of volunteering include the opportunity to enhance your personal skills, confidence and communication by engaging with other people and increasing your knowledge of different areas, such as gardening with HarvestHud.
Staff from the University volunteer their time to help run the local foodbank which benefits from the produce created through HarvestHud. By working together they have developed a mutually beneficial partnership.
