The Business School’s Emerging Markets Research Group (EMERGE) heard Dr Iva Kirovova from Ostrava University, Czech Republic, present her research on Postmodern Careers and Career Management Skills (CMS).

Iva Kirovova is a Senior Lecturer in Management at the Technical University of Ostrava where she lectures on Organisational Behaviour and Career Development and a Lecturer in Psychology at the Charles University in Prague. Iva has a rich practice as a psychologist and she is using her research in the area of organisational studies and career development where she has published heavily.

Iva says “Global transformations interconnected with the emergence of the post-industrial era have been reflected in the concept of a postmodern career. Individual management and planning of a career have become the core characteristics of career changes. Various CMS frameworks represent schemes and approaches relevant to the development of important skills which are needed for individual career development.”

Professor John Anchor, Director of the Emerging Markets Research Group, says “It was great to have Iva back in Huddersfield once more and to hear her research updates. This further re- enforces our already strong connections with the Faculty of Economics at the Technical University of Ostrava”.
