Lawrence Batley Theatre, located on Queen Street just across the road from the University campus, invites staff and students to their forthcoming Christmas events.

It’s a Wonderful LifeLawrence Batley Theatre

Friday 4 – Sunday 6 December

Alone on a bridge on Christmas Eve, his dreams dashed by big businesses and small-town scandal, idealist George Bailey decides that the world would be better off without him. Or would it? It falls to hapless guardian angel Clarence Odbody to try and save him.

The magical story of Frank Capra’s iconic film is retold as a radio play, complete with sound effects created live on stage. This loving tribute to the golden era of the wireless is a fresh and timely take on a heartwarming festive classic. Its premiere in London last Christmas played to packed houses, and was a Guardian Critic’s Choice.

Lawrence Batley Theatre The Lawrence Batley Theatre presents Tell Tale Hearts and Pif-Paf's

Snow White

Friday 11 – Sunday 27 December

A lonely child with an eye for adventure. A wronged stepmother. A magical mirror. A poisoned apple. A brass band of musical miners…

This playful and hugely imaginative take on the Brothers Grimm fairy tale is set in our own Yorkshire landscape, with a pit wheel doubling as a musical stage for a group of trumpet-toting miners, and the scorned stepmother recast for the celebrity age as fading diva Mystique Stardust. Following national acclaim for The Snow Queen, the LBT’s resident company Tell Tale Hearts return to the main stage in a playful, dynamic collaboration with maverick visual theatre pioneers Pif-Paf, weaving aerial feats, live music and comedy in an unforgettable Christmas treat for all ages.
