IT systems availability during the power-down on the weekend of 19-20 December 2015

We have now completed the planning process to determine which IT systems will be available during the power-down of the main data centre in the Central Services Building (CSB) on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 December 2015.

Student systems that will be available during the weekend of 19-20 December 2015:

  • UniLearn
  • UniMail
  • Student Desktop
  • Student K: drives
  • Student printing
  • Library systems
  • University web site

Staff systems that will be available during the weekend of 19-20 December 2015

  • Staff email
  • University web site
  • CALMS (Archives system)

All other major IT systems will be unavailable for the entire weekend.

Some systems, such as ASIS and Agresso, may be unavailable from the afternoon of Friday 18 December 2015.  This is so that we can take backups, and then shut them down properly.

We are also taking the opportunity during the hours of 12.00noon and 4.00pm on Saturday 19 December 2015 to conduct a series of tests on the campus network.  With that in mind we are asking you to be aware that those systems which are available will be at risk from interruptions during these times.

Normal service will be restored to all our IT systems by 8.00am on Monday 21 December 2015, but hopefully considerably before this.

Finally, in order to ensure some of the systems listed above are guaranteed to be working on the power-down weekend, there will be some brief early morning disruption (between 7.00am and 8.00am) on Tuesday 15 December 2015 whilst we transfer the running of these services to the secondary data centre.

Please also note that the power-down only affects the data centre in CSB.  All other areas of CSB, and the rest of the campus, will have electrical power as normal.

If you have any questions regarding any of the above, please do not hesitate to contact me.
