Weather in the extreme

snow WET, warm and windy... sums up this month’s weather in a nutshell.  November was a record breaking month in terms of extreme weather; temperatures, precipitation and wind speeds all exceeded the average figures expected for the time of year.  It was the third warmest and was by far the wettest November recorded since our records began!  Huddersfield also experienced its wettest day since 14th June 2007.  The average figures are those recorded from the Applied Sciences weather station since 1990.

The monthly mean temperature was 9.54˚C compared to the average for November of 7.72˚C making it the warmest since 2011 and the third warmest since our records began.  The warmest day of the month was Tuesday 10th when average temperatures were a staggering 15.7˚C (average 13.41˚C) making it by far the warmest November day since our records began.  The highest maximum temperature was 19˚C recorded on Sunday 1st and again a record breaking figure!  The coldest day of the month was Saturday 21st with an average figure of 2.1˚C; the lowest recorded temperature of -0.4˚C was also recorded on this day.  Temperatures only fell just below zero on two days of the month.
