First Erasmus Mundus Social Event

The Business School’s Erasmus Mundus students gathered together on 3 November to share their first impressions of their stay in Huddersfield in a friendly atmosphere.
The EMERGE group started to facilitate two Erasmus Mundus projects in 2012 of which one provides scholarships for students and researchers from Central Asia (CANEM) and one for students and researchers from North Africa (UNetBA). This September, the University of Huddersfield Business School has seen already a third cohort of Master and Bachelor students and PhD and post-doctoral researchers arriving in Huddersfield to experience life in the United Kingdom and furthering their studies in various areas of business, economics, finance, marketing and management.
During the evening, Professor John Anchor, the coordinator of UNetBA and CANEM projects, officially welcomed all Erasmus Mundus students to an evening full of exciting cultural exchange over a dinner. In a short talk, he explained to the visitors the origins of three British traditions: Bonfire Night (5 November) which commemorates the attempt by Guy Fawkes to blow up the Houses of Parliament in 1605; Remembrance Day (which commemorates the lives lost in two world wars); and talking about the (wet) weather which the UK experiences.
The director of EMERGE, Professor John Anchor, says “it was great to share a meal and share experiences with our visitors and with colleagues from the International Office. We enjoyed a very happy evening. I am looking forward to our next social evening, during which our visitors will tell us about life in their countries”.
